Korea Foundation for the Prevention of Blindness(KFPB) began as Korea Association for the Prevention of Blindness in 1973 has performed works for the prevention of blindness and improvement of eye health in line with the needs of each period and the change of society.
Main works of the KFPB include preschooler vision screening, mobile eye examination, eye surgery assistance for the poor, and eye health education etc.
Working purpose for early detection and treatment of Strabismus, Myopia, Astigmatism which possibly cause visual disability in the childhood.
Providing basic eye examination for early detection and treatment with the frequency of 70 times for 11,000 people. The mobile examination system was set up and has been operating since 1994 for the aged, foreign workers and children in the regions which can't easily access to clinics.
Supporting expenses of operation for the low-income people who have eye diseases with high possibility of recovery of vision. 4,000 eyes in a year which are experiencing vision recovery by operations.
Operating outreach eye health class program available in all ages.
Holding academic seminars, business presentations and eye health campaign Provides eye health education and training for kindergarten teachers, staff at public health centers, eye doctors, staff of education offices.
Developing and distributing health education materials in various forms for different age groups
Working on visual rehabilitation (e.g. LVDs adaptation, training of operating method, Visual efficiency development) for the low-visioned under the sight of 0.3 who are having difficulties in daily life, counseling, supplying and lending low vision devices.
The Foundation has continuously worked with WHO, IAPB and etc. on the basis of its domestic experience in the blindness prevention work and held the signing ceremony of Vision 2020, an international movement to eliminate preventable blindness by 2020.
Transmitting our eye care experience to developing countries like as Cambodia, Laos, and Malawi.
Preparing the establishment of the eye clinic in developing country which can be treated and surgery for cataract, strabismus etc.
